Welcome to Modern Miniatures!

Hello to everyone!
This will be my first post since creating this blog quite a while ago.  I have been following many blogs over the past year and have met some very talented people who share my entusiasm for "Miniatures". So I have decided to share a project I am working on for myself. I was given a "Lawbre" structure about seven years ago now and only recently started working on converting it.  Many of you who know Lawbre houses will remember this one, "Chessington Plaza".  It is a large building designed by the late Dan McNeil. It consists of four floors, side and front openings and unfortunately only 10" high ceilings.  Though it looks huge, the space inside is quite small when trying to work out a floor plan to best showcase the rooms.  I struggled with what to do with it for all these years and finally decided on the exterior conversion after meeting, via blog, the stunning work of Linda Carswell of Hobart, Tazmania, Austrailia.  Her exquisite "Petite Maison" was my inspiration. So thank you Linda!  You started me on the road of converting this structure.
I will attempt to post pictures as soon as I figure this "blog" thing out.  In the mean time check out the stunning work of  Giac at "Late Victorian English Manor Dollhouse in 1/12 scale",  Also John at "Merriman Park" and Simon at, "Miniature Enthusiast", and certainly do not miss Linda at "Une Petite Follie". Linda and these young men are doing beautiful and very creative miniature houses well worth looking at.
More to come..........Please check back and follow me if you like.  I am looking forward to sharing some things with all my "Blogger" friends

  2. Hi Ray!

I have admired Lawbre's Chessington a la distance ever since I picked up their catalog --what an exciting project! (I see what you mean about the floor plan, though). 8. Looks like a fun project. It's funny the things that one learns on blogs. I use and teach autoCAD and it never really occurred to me to draw and laser cut my own railings! What type and thickness of wood did you use? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  10. I've admired your work since I was reawakened to my childhood love of mini's in the 1990's.

I'm very glad you now have a blog.
Working on big houses is such a huge undertaking and you are a perfectionist, this will be great to see as you go along - and tremendously inspiring!
